The Confirmation Program
First English Lutheran Church
For: Youth in 7th & 8th grades
and Older Youth who have not
completed instruction
When: Wednesday evenings
5:30-6:30 p.m.
The Church of Jesus Christ is called
to be ambassadors of God’s good news to
all the world. This gospel which we have
received is to be faithfully passed on to each
succeeding generation. To ensure that the
content of what is being passed on is true
and faithful, the church has instituted the
practice of confirming members in the faith.
To be confirmed means that the
person has received instruction in the
teachings of the historic apostolic faith and
can now be entrusted to assist in the passing
on of this faith to those who have ears to
hear.
To be “confirmed” qualifies one
to become a “voting member” of the
congregation; helping to decide how the
congregation shall best order its affairs for
the proclamation of God’s Word to a lost
world.
To be “confirmed” qualifies one
to be entrusted with the passing on of the
faith through the teaching ministries of the
congregation.
To be “confirmed” qualifies one to
take on leadership responsibilities within the
congregation.
Instruction
Instruction for our youth takes
place over a two year period. The basics
of the faith are taught and participants are
encouraged to gain a working knowledge
of the 10 Commandments, the creedal
confessions of the church, and Lord’s Prayer.
The classes run through the school
year, September through May. Following
completion of instruction, the participants
are received as “Confirmed Members” in the
Rite of Affirmation of Baptism.
Adult Instruction
For adults who transfer in, a shorter
period of instruction is offered that will
offer them the opportunity to also become
confirmed members of First English
Lutheran.
