Who is Welcome at First English?
We at First English Lutheran in Lennox want it to be known that all are welcome to come and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
We welcome people who have not yet managed to “get it all together”.
We welcome people who are suffering from addictions to alcohol, drugs, and gambling (whether they are recovering or not).
We welcome children who are unruly and cry during worship (we’ve all been there).
We welcome children, women, men, and those who are confused about their identity.
We welcome singles, divorced, married, and widowed.
We welcome those who are promiscuous, who have had children from multiple partners, who have not taken responsibility for the children they birthed, who have had an abortion, and who have not been a good parent to their children.
We welcome gays, lesbians, bi-sexual, transgendered, queers, questioning and their families.
We welcome gossips, liars, cheats and their families.
We welcome those whose family lives are a mess.
We welcome those who steal, covet, use God’s name in vain, and curse often.
We welcome sinners of every stripe….
We believe that all human beings have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and that we cannot deliver ourselves from the grip of sin. We believe that we are all powerless and need a Savior.
We welcome all because we know that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us and forgave us our sin. Therefore, we must forgive others and welcome them to hear the same good news that gave us new life.
Sinners are welcome at First English Lutheran. If you are not a sinner, you do not need to hear the good news that we are proclaiming because the gospel we proclaim is the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. If you are not a sinner, you are not welcome at First English Lutheran.
…because everyone at First English Lutheran is a sinner, we may not always be as quick to welcome you as we should. We may not always present ourselves as the ideal place to feel safe and welcomed. But we will continue to preach Christ as crucified and risen. We will not promote ourselves as the answer to all your hurts and needs by our accepting and loving presence. But we will continue to proclaim Christ Jesus as the hope for all seeking forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life.
You are always welcome to come here to hear: Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of all your sin.
